The beginning of the New Year is a good time to face difficult personal challenges. For instance, it could be the time to self-heal from long held negative emotions and their consequences in your life over time. This could be the year to break through barriers that hold you back from living life with real peace and joy.
If you have experienced feelings of trauma or feel something is not entirely in order emotionally, it might indicate a need to resolve some long held emotional issues. According to Dr. John Douillard, D.C., research conducted by the National Institute of Health (NIH) shows that the brain can hold onto mental toxins that get trapped in cells throughout your body. This can turn into destructive behavioral patterns and negative body patterns that are difficult to release. These “molecules of emotion” can start coming into the body from childhood traumas that include repressed emotions like anger, jealousy, and grief that were not allowed to be expressed or resolved when first experienced.
Getting old, toxic emotions out of your life takes more than just changing your mind about something. Instead, it is necessary to get these negative emotions out of the body from the cellular level. One way to identify the negative emotions lying deep in your body is to first acknowledge the pains you feel. Try to locate where you carry the feelings of pain or depression in your body. Then you can meditate on healing those areas.
Areas of the body that are likely to carry the damaged emotions in the body are the skin, spine, and internal organs. Doing a self-massage is one way to provide yourself with a form of touch therapy to bring up these emotions. Other suggested methods to start repairing these areas are massage and craniosacral therapies, chiropractic, and other touch therapies.
Of course, more work would be needed on the psychological and emotional levels to bring about real healing. Getting the support of others who can understand the type of issues you are attempting to heal has been found to be very helpful.
