Laura Minkoff scored a goal and two assists to lead the Totino-Grace Eagles to a 3-0 shut out of the St. Louis Park Orioles Saturday night at The Rec Center.
Minkoff set up the lone first period goal goal, sliding a pass to freshman Mackenzie Bartolas on the right side of Oriole goalie Anna Gleason and she put it in the net.
Totino-Grace would tally in the second period while St. Louis Park's Molly Arntson was serving a slashing penalty. Minkoff's shot was saved by Gleason and Maddie Javorina found an open spot in the crease that enabled her to score a power play goal. The Orioles had a five on three opportunity for :57 but Eagle goalie Logan Knip was nipping at the net, keep them from cutting the deficit to one.
In the third period, it looked like nobody would score another goal. Not so. With 2:27 left, St. Louis Park called time out and when play resumed, head coach Donnie Williams pulled Gleason for a sixth attacker. Unfortunately, it didn't pay off as Minkoff, one of five Totino-Grace seniors, took a shot behind the blue line and the puck entered the empty net.
The Eagles improved their record to 9-3 and have won six of their last seven games. They will play Cambridge-Isanti in the quarterfinals of the Coon Rapids Tournament Thursday, December 26 at 2:30 at the Coon Rapids Ice Center. The Orioles fell to 0-11-1 and head for the Waseca tournament December 26-28.
