Although typically the last week of the year coincides with the holiday season, which in turn means that for most industries, it's the slowest time of the year. Not so for the folks over at the NHTSA, which are still reporting (alongside automakers) the latest recalls from Land Rover, Nissan, Volvo, GM, and Ford.

Here's the recap:

Land Rover - The other half of JaguarLandRover (or JLR for short), a subsidiary of Tata Motors from India, has recently announced a recall concerning nearly 4,000 of their 2013 and 2014 Range Rover flagship SUV. The reason for the recall is to repair the connector for the side airbags, which could disconnect inadvertently. If the vehicle were to be involved in a side impact, the side airbags may fail to deploy, thus increasing the risk of injury to the affected occupants. The recall is expected to begin on January 17, 2014.

Nissan - The Japanese automaker announced that they are recalling their 2013 NV200 small commercial vans. Although only seven vans will be involved in the recall, the issue is nonetheless important enough to warrant one. The reason for the recall is to repair the steering assembly, which could detach from the steering column. This could result in a loss of steering, and increase the risk of the vehicle being involved in an accident. Although the seven affected vehicles were initially taken off of the assembly line for inspection, according to Nissan, the steering assemblies were not put back together properly, after being disassembled for inspection. Nissan has also advised owners to not operate the vehicles until the steering columns are repaired. This is the second Nissan recall to affect the new van in recent months.

Volvo - The Swedish automaker (currently owned by the Chinese automaker Greely) has announced that they're be recalling 30,929 2011-2012 of their S60 sedans for an issue with the engine's oil pressure sensor. More specifically, the sensor may not have been activated in the vehicle's central electronics module (CEM). If the sensor isn't activated, then it's unable to determine any change in oil pressure. If left unattended, the owner may continue to operate the vehicle without the proper amount of oil, thus increasing the risk of damaging the engine's vital components. Volvo has stated that a software upgrade to the CEL module will correct the issue.

GM: The General has announced a recall for 9,733 of their 2012-2013 Chevrolet and GMC HD pickups equipped with the 6.6 liter diesel engine, as well as dual fuel tanks. The reason for the latest GM recall is for the transfer pump, which could fail and not provide an accurate reading. The pump is responsible for transporting fuel from the rear tank to the front tank (once the rear tank begins to run out of fuel). If the pump goes out, then it could increase the risk of leaving the driver stranded without fuel. GM has stated that they will replace the transfer pump at no charge to the affected owners.

Ford: Although the Dearborn, Michigan automaker has enjoyed another successful sales year, it did not prevent them from issuing another recall for approximately 7,153 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ hybrid sedans that were produced between April 26, 2012, through September 24, 2013. The transmission range sensor may malfunction at any given time, thus allowing one to shift out of Park without first depressing the brake pedal. If the sensor is defective, it could increase the risk of the vehicle and any occupants inside to be involved in a collision. The latest Ford recall will have dealership technicians updating the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), which should correct the issue.
