Tortorella apologizes for actions against Flames

According to TSN on Monday, Vancouver Canucks' head coach John Tortorella apologized for his actions against the Calgary Flames on January 18.

Tortorella tried to confront Calgary Flames' head coach Bob Hartley in between periods while Hartley was standing just outside of his own locker room. Tortorella was restrained by Flames' assistant coach Clint Malarchuk and player Brian McGrattan.

The veteran head coach was upset that Hartley started his enforcers in what turned out to be a 3-2 Vancouver shootout win. Two seconds into this game, the Canucks and Flames had a bench clearing brawl.

The Canucks' head coach was suspended 15 days and was back in behind the bench tonight for the Canucks' game against the Detroit Red Wings. The Red Wings defeated the Canucks 2-0 this evening as Jimmy Howard and Jonas Gustavsson combined for a shutout. It appears that Tortorella's presence behind the Canucks' bench did not spark their offense.

Vancouver went 2-4 during Tortorella's absence. Vancouver currently leads Phoenix by one point for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
