Inspired by the great Canadian outdoors and a spirit of winter adventure, the Joe Fresh collection centered on bold outerwear and new proportions. "This season I was inspired by Canada's mountains, wilderness and outdoor elements, particularly against the backdrop of this winter's polar vortex that we've all gone through together," said Joe Mimran Creative Director, Joe Fresh. "The cold seeped into our collective conscious and outerwear really became top of mind."
Creative interpretations of oversize parkas and anoraks, in an array of silhouettes and proportions, take center stage. "We gave ourselves the freedom to experiment with shape and volume, so coats this season veer from oversize to shrunken, trapeze to ankle-length," explained Mimran.
Dramatic volume, as in oversize funnel neck coats, contrast with the collection's slim pants, some constructed from menswear-tinged cavalry twill or embellished with sporty lace-up details. "The narrow contours on bottom create an interesting dichotomy of silhouette. The overall effect is one of urban sophistication married to a more free-spirited attitude. This is a confident, active woman who likes the outdoors. She's cool but never fussy," added Mimran.
Fabrics play an important role in defining the rich and rustic character of the collection. Marled materials, as in chunky knitwear and updated sweatshirts, lend texture and surface interest to pieces. Faux fur, including a "teddy" version, brings a luxe look to coats. Bonded fabrics and raw edges add a progressive tech element to other designs.
The color story of the season is substantive and earthy, abounding in olive, lichen, camel and caramel.
Designs from the collection will be available at joefresh.com and in select Joe Fresh stores in Canada, the United States and international markets in the fall.
