What is it about the third Monday in February that is so special. For most Ontario residents it is the notion of a long holiday weekend and a "Family Day" together. However, the roots of the "special day" go deeper in the souls of those who relish being Canadian. Enjoy time with the family and check these Family Day trip activities on Februrary 17
Origins of Family Day
This particular day is also Canada Heritage Day as outlined by the Heritage Canada Foundation (HCF). The initial concept of a Canada Heritage Day has been modified in name in many Canadian provinces. Although Ontario celebrates the day as Family Day, Prince Edward Island celebrates Islander's Day, and Manitoba has named the day Louis Riel Day after a Canadian legend and folk hero. The theme this year is Historic Places Made for Play. Find your favorite place to play for children at Family Day activities for kids near Toronto.
Ontario Heritage Week
The public holiday in Ontario is the start to Ontario Heritage Week. The theme for 2014 is Remembering the First World War: Ontario in transition.
