In celebration of Black History Month the TD Bank Group, Canadian Film Centre (CFC) and director Clement Virgo present an evening in conversation with iconic actress Pam Grier.
Grier will take the stage at Toronto’s Varsity cinemas on Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. for a Q&A style discussion hosted by actress and director Sharon Lewis.
Credited as being cinema’s first female action star, Grier has built a brilliant career by playing impressively strong women on screen. She is memorable for her performances in early black exploitation films (Foxy Brown, Coffy), her starring role in Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown, and as Kit Porter in Showtime’s The L Word. She recently appeared in Tom Hank’s comedy Larry Crowne and has completed work on four additional films, all of which are in post-production.
During the evening’s presentation Grier will be encouraged to explore her inspirations for entering the film business, the choices she has made as an actress, and the challenges she has faced along the way. Grier will undoubtedly draw on her personal experiences to discuss the impact of being a role model both on and off the screen.
Admission is $20 with all proceeds going to support the CFC Diversity Scholarship. Tickets are available online or at the door.
