According to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport website, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues and the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds won the men's and women's Canadian Interuniversity Sport National Swimming Championships respectively at the University of Calgary Aquatic Centre Saturday night.
The Thuderbirds posted a weekend total of 691.5 points, which was 143.5 points more than the second place Dinos. The Varsity Blues meanwhile posted a weekend total of 539 points, 15 more points than the Thunderbirds to win their first National Swimming Championship in 18 years. By winning the National Swimming Championship, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues also won the Nelson C. Hart Trophy.
It was also a great evening for Jason Block of the University of Calgary, who set a CIS Championship record in the men's 50m breaststroke by posting a time of 27.22 seconds.
Also according to www.godinos.com, University of Calgary swimmer Tianna Rissling of Medicine Hat, Alberta won the CIS Rookie of the Year award. Rissling won the CIS National Championship this weekend in the women's 50m breaststroke and women's 400m individual medley.
