Tornadoes confirmed from severe storms on Friday

Tornadoes have been confirmed from severe storms on Friday in Northern Mississippi.

The National Weather Service confirmed a 100 yard wide EF-1 tornado with max winds of 110 mph, touched down in Washington County in Northwestern Mississippi at 1145 am -Friday morning, 2 miles south southwest of Wayside.

The tornado started along Levee Road and moved north northeast, snapping and downing numerous trees.  

As it crossed State Highway 1, it snapped several more trees, destroyed a couple of outbuildings, caused some damage to a couple of mobile homes,  and caused siding damage to a frame home.  It then moved northeast into a mobile complex along Key Road, where it narrowed and reached its maximum intensity and completely destroyed one mobile home -where a fatality occurred.

Two mobiles were rolled over, causing minor to moderate damage to several other mobile homes.  Power lines were also downed and a number of trees were snapped and uprooted.

The tornado dissipated as it crossed State Highway 438.

The National Weather Service confirmed a 75 yards wide, EF-0 tornado with max winds of 75 mph, touched down in Bolivar County in Northwestern Mississippi at 1143 am -Friday morning, 1 mile southwest of Benoit.

The tornado paralleled State Highway 1 from just southwest of Benoit, through Benoit, to just northeast of Benoit. A few homes in Benoit suffered minor shingle damage or damage from limbs or trees falling on them.  A farm building and a mobile home also suffered some damage about 2 miles northeast of Benoit.

At least 20 counties have reported wind damage across the state (Webster, Leflore, Humphreys, Tate, Neshoba, Winston, Grenada, Forrest, Sunflower, Bolivar, Carroll, Montgomery, Marshall, Pontotoc, Calhoun, Tishomingo, Washington, Chickasaw, Lamar, and Monroe Counties)
