A very stormy day will unfold across the state of Mississippi, with severe weather and flash flooding possible.

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Tornado Watch until 4 pm across portions of Central and all of Northern Mississippi, including Vicksburg, Greenville, Greenwood, Tupelo, Starkville, and Columbus.

A strong to severe line of storms was racing east across Louisiana and Arkansas toward the state, with a history of damaging winds across Northeastern Texas, Arkansas, and Northwestern Louisiana. 

Damaging winds and isolated tornadoes are possible along the leading edge of this line of storms, as it moves into Western and Northern Mississippi by early afternoon.

The severe weather threat will increase across the state as the day progresses.

In addition, a Flash Flood Watch is in effect through this evening across Northern Mississippi, including Tupelo and Southaven.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms could produce rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches  with localized higher amounts, which could lead to flash flooding.  (These areas have received 10 to 15 inches of rainfall over the past few weeks and  grounds are saturated.)
