Tori Kelli does private concert for Billboard Women in Music this week in NYC

This week has been all about the 'Women in Music', which Billboard honors the best of the best females in the music industry. The event kicked off with a Women in Music luncheon in NYC which honored P!nk as Billboard's Woman of the Year and Janelle Monae as Rising Star along with the top women in the industry. After the luncheon, YouTube sensation and Billboard's 2013 "21 Under 21," Tori Kelly performed a private concert at The Jazz Room for her Nikon Candid Covers show which was captured by Nikon. Examiner.com was in attendance and had the opportunity to chat with Kelly prior to her intimate performance. Fresh from the luncheon, Tori could not hide her admiration for P!nk, "She is so amazing, I am obsessed with her...I saw her live for the first time this week, and in my opinion she is the best performer of our generation...she is a really inspiring artist, and that award could not have gone to a better person," said Kelly. As her hair and make-up team worked to get her "stage" ready, she further went to share where she gets her musical inspiration from, "I grew up listening to a lot of Gospel growing up, I listened to Crystal Lewis as a kid and she really inspired me." Then Tori spoke of her upcoming first studio album, "The start of next year will be the my main focus to get the album out there, I am hoping to have it done and out by Spring of 2014 for everyone who has been so supportive of me."

Tori then took to the stage with just her guitar...no background singers, bass player, or pianist, it was simply Tori and her sweet soothing voice that has made millions captivated. Tori performed personal fan requests from her two EPs "Handmade Songs" and "Foreword." The fun did not stop there for fans, known for her creative covers, Kelly did not disappoint when she performed a melody of all-star girl group, Destiny's Child "Say My Name" with Frank Ocean's "Thinking Bout You."

Tori closed the intimate concert with a personal love song entitled, "Dear No One," from her "Foreword" EP and returned to the stage to greet fans, take pictures, and sign autographs. Be sure to stay tuned for updated for Tori's debut album— a passionate pairing of soul and pop that reflects both her lifelong devotion to music and uncommon authenticity as an artist.
