Topless women protest in front of Vatican, Pope Benedict

A topless protest by four women at the Vatican during Pope Benedict’s weekly prayer caused quite an uproar. The video that shows the four topless women in front of the Vatican was published by Euro News on Jan. 13, 2013.

The women had come fully dressed to the Vatican but suddenly began to take off their top shirts.

The crowd of people who had come to the Vatican to listen to Pope Benedict’s weekly prayer were all dressed in heavy coats, hats, scarves, and gloves because of the cold weather. Some of Pope Benedict’s audience included people from around the world holding flags from their individual countries.

When the four women all of a sudden took off their top shirts, the people behind them at first didn’t realize what was happening. Once it was clear that the four women were topless, the people behind the topless four women turned away. Husbands gently guided their wives away from the four topless women making sure they were not mistaken to be one of them. The people in front of the women continued to listen to Pope Benedict’s prayer not knowing what was happening behind them.

Some of Pope Benedict’s audience immediately took pictures and videos of the four topless women.

Within seconds after taking off their shirts, security personnel and police officers jumped towards the four topless women, covered their front up with some clothing, and quickly led the four topless women away.

After stripping off their shirts, the bare backs and bare front parts of the four topless women showed that they had written down “Shut up” and “In Gay we trust.”

According to Euro News, the four women were activists from “the Ukrainian women’s rights group Femen.”

The video of the four topless women at the Vatican does not show any sign that Pope Benedict was disturbed in any way by the four topless women’s protest.
