This year we celebrate Valentine's Day on Friday, February 14. a festival of romantic love, when cards, letters, flowers or presents to spouse or lover are sent and received. It is blieved that Valentines day, which is associated with romantic love and symbolized by hearts, red roses, and Cupid, followed from the Pagan fertility festivals that were part of the culture in Europe and England in the middle ages. In our time people who have fallen in love are often said to have been struck by Cupid's bow.

With Valentine's day just a few weeks away suggestions and offers of how to celebrate the day are already being advertised, a few of the top choices follow.

1. Laguna Cliffs Marriot Resort

This premier resort sits atop a cliff in Dana Point with spectacular views of the harbor and coastline. To celebrate Valentine's day they are offering special packages, guests can purchase just one, or combine them for a fantastic celebration.

The Package of Love includes overnight accommodations, your choice of a bottle of house champagne or sparkling wine, chocolate covered strawberries, valet parking, resort fees, and a late check out good to 1 p.m. Rates start at $305 - 385 per night and reservations can be made online

Add the special "A night in Paris" on Feb 14, from 6 - 11 pm and celebrate love under the stars with a French inspired menu, that starts with a red rose as you arrive in the French Inspired Pavilion on the Vue lawn, where you can choose from a French menu, while enjoying music, dancing and entertainment throughout the evening.

Next day, before you leave, arrange for the "Best for Romance Couples Spa Package" a 60-minute couples massage and 30-minute at the Spa suite with a private outdoor patio, whirlpool, waterfall, fireplace, sparkling wine, refreshments and flowers, all for only $375 per couple.

2. Casa Laguna Inn Roamnce Package

Casa Laguna's historic Mission architecture, lush gardens, and expansive ocean views are just one of the many pleasures to be had at this hotel. The special Valentine's Sweetheart Package is now sold out, but the hotel has many other romantic packages such as "their 'Passion Package' which includes a bottle of sparkling wine, two souvenir flutes, and chocolate covered fruit. This has to be ordered at least a day before check in to ensure proper handling. Reserve online when you book you room reservations. Cost for the package is $55 without French champagne, $55 with.

These two special Valentine's Day offerings are also in Laguna Beach, they can be enjoyed while staying at the hotel, or done on a stand alone visit.

This package is valid only on Valentines Day, when couples can get side-by-side massages with sugar and spice treatment, steam towels, nutrient rich pumpkin mud mask, and whoopie hand, arm, and shoulder massages. After the treatment enjoy organic chocolates dipped strawberries and champagne or sparkling cider. The 1.5 hour treatment costs $390 and can be booked online or by calling 949-497-5414.

Scott's Restaurant is located in the heart of South Coast Metro, and only a short distance from Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Their special 3-course Valentine's Day dinner, with a fixed price of $60 per person includes such creative dishes as - torched ahi sashimi, Asian pear salad, and main course choices of Skuna salmon papillote, Maine lobster risotto, and filet Mignon, ending with four delicious dessert choices. Wine pairing for each course cost an additional $35. Dinner is from 6 - 10 p.m. and can be reserved by calling (714) 070-2400

After dinner consider attending the special "Valentimne's Day with Matthew Morrison at the Rene & Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall at 8 p.m.
