Top Tips to Stay Fit at Rockefeller Center

Rockefeller Center opened in May 1933 under the vision of John D. Rockefeller, Jr. It was constructed during some of the most heinous years of the Great Depression. However, the structure of Rockefeller Center ironically employed over 40,000 workers at that time. Presently, an estimated one million visitors tour through Rockefeller Center each year to enjoy all of the art, history, activities, and sights. Staying fit when visiting this legendary landmark is easier than ever. Enclosed below are three quick tips to maintain your healthy lifestyle at Rockefeller Center:

1. Take the Stairs – Located on 50th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues, Top of the Rock offers some of the most iconic views of New York City, including Central Park and the Empire State Building. With the observation deck on floors 67, 69, and 70, skip the elevator ride and take the stairs for a more challenging and proficient workout. The incline of the stairs will engage your glutes and hamstrings while your core engages to stabilize you more efficiently. Not into the stairs? Why not sign up for a guided tour? Tours are offered daily between 10am and 4pm and include the observation deck atop 30 Rockefeller Center. These one hour and fifteen minute tours can be a terrific calorie burn as you walk and stand for long periods of time.

2.  Lace Your Skates – Ice skating can be an excellent cardiovascular workout as you glide among fellow New Yorkers and captivated tourists at Rockefeller Center.  Moreover, ice skating is an excellent method for muscle toning in your entire lower body, specifically in your hamstrings and quadriceps. Your lower back and abdominals will also get a terrific workout since these muscles have to stabilize you while you skate. Therefore, not only is ice skating a fun activity, you can get fit while you enjoy Rockefeller Center’s picturesque background.

3. Choose Wisely– Deciding where to eat at Rockefeller Center can be quite overwhelming with the multitude of restaurants from which to choose. It can be easy to opt for that quick bite, but those foods are often unhealthy. The Sea Grill, Del Frisco’s, and Oceana are all great choices to stay healthy as these restaurants offer a variety of fish dishes, lean fillet mignon, and plenty of seasonal vegetables with an elegant ambiance. If you are really pressed for time and only have a New York minute, try the establishment Just Salad. Here, you can find every salad imaginable along with healthy smoothies as a sweet encore!
