In Utah we have an opportunity to play quality courses for a low price. Shouldn't we be able to play a quality golf ball for a low price? With the Callaway HX Diablo Tour ball, now we can.
As number nine on the list of top ten golf balls, the Diablo Tour is actually a very good ball to play in the summer in Utah. The ball is a three piece ball that has a thicker outer cover than a Titleist Pro V1 or Taylor Made Penta. This allows for the ball to react better in warmer temperatures. The cover will perform as if it were thinner because the hot weather will actually soften the ball a little bit. This is a new golf ball for 2011 in the Callaway line. It replaces the HX Bite golf ball.
Like all Callaway Golf balls, the Diablo Tour features hex aerodynamics. This is a dimple that is shaped like a hexagon rather than a circle. This allows for 100 percent surface coverage by the dimples. The number ten on the top ten list, the Gamer V2, features round dimples that only cover about 88 percent of the surface area. This is the main reason that the Diablo Tour is ahead of the Gamer V2 in the rankings.
The hex aerodynamics is produced to ensure a more penetrating ball flight by reducing the drag on the ball. If the ball can penetrate the air better, it will create more distance on your shots. This dimple pattern also helps when playing in the rain and other less than ideal conditions. Conditions that are commonplace in Utah.
The HX Diablo Tour is a three-piece ball. The middle layer reduces spin created by shots when using a driver. This will also contribute to longer distances off of the tee. If you want more spin, then try the HX Diablo two-piece ball. The Tour is ideal for windy conditions that we see a lot out here in the Utah golf courses.
The softer cover on the Diablo Tour allows for better control on and around the green. This will help with better feel on chip shots and putts. Although this ball helps short game control to a certain extent, this ball is primarily designed for long distance. For a better feeling ball on your chip shots and putts try Taylor Made Penta, Titleist Pro V1, or Callaway Tour I series balls. The Diablo Tour is in between the Diablo and the Callaway Tour I(s) and I(z) golf balls.
Like the number ten Gamer V2, the Diablo Tour also received a gold medal on Golf Digest's 2011 hot list. It received five stars for performance and innovation. It is one of the top golf balls in its category of $21- $30. Typically you can find this ball for about $26 dollars a dozen. This is not a bad price for a three-piece golf ball.
During our hot summer months here in Utah this ball is highly recommended. It is durable, performs well in hot weather and wind, and it is affordable to most golfers.
