Top ten fireworks displays in Kansas City

There’s no shortage of fireworks displays going on this weekend in the Kansas City area. Most are free, some are included in nominal admission prices as part of other (bigger) events, but all should be spectacular from any vantage point. Here is a list of events that should be host to some of the best fireworks around. Ok, so there are 11 spots total - check one out if your family doesn’t already have a favorite spot.
 

The Lee’s Summmit Legacy Blast Fireworks
o Friday, July 2, 2010 choreographed to music and simulcast on 94.9 KCMO
o Held at Legacy Park which will open at 6:00 p.m. via the south entrance.
o Food vendors, local entertainers and inflatables will be available before the fireworks show.
o Free to the public.
 

English Landing Park 4th of July Celebration in Parkville 
o July 1-4, 2010
o The celebration is free to the public
o Includes live music, vendors, carnival, parades, beer garden and a free fireworks display.
o The fireworks show is at 9:45 July 4.
 

The Raymore city Independence Day celebration in Recreation Park.
o Sunday, July 4, 2010
o The celebration is free to the public
o Includes live music from T-Marv and Hammer Down, food for purchase at concession stands, and a free fireworks display.
o Activities begin at 7:00 p.m.
o The fireworks show is at dusk. In case of rainout, the fireworks display will be rescheduled for Monday, July 5.
 

The New Independence Square - Saturday, July 3, 2010
o The 8th annual “Let Freedom Ring” children’s parade begins at 10:00 a.m. at 23rd & Main at 9:30 a.m. – children are encouraged to bring their decorated bikes, wagons or scooters. The parade will end at about 11:00 a.m. on the Square at Clinton’s Ice Cream parlor, 100 W. Maple, where children will receive a free treat.
o Primary Colors Art Gallery, 109 W. Lexington, will offer free flag face paintings, and around the corner at Gilbert and Whitney’s, 104 N. Liberty. Decorate patriotic cookies for 50 cents each.
o Watermelon seed contest starts at 11:00 a.m. at the Pharaoh Theater, 114 W. Maple.
o Pie eating contest starts at 11:00 a.m. at the Pharaoh Theater.
o From 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., executive chef Marshall Roth of Ophelia’s will share his “Grill Secrets to Success” at Gilbert & Whitney, 104 N. Liberty.
o Other events include sidewalk shopping, covered wagon rides and exhibits at the Mormon Visitor’s Center (937 W. Walnut)
o Fireworks area opens at 8:00 p.m. - the first 500 people through the gates will get a free ice cream treat. The Spirit of Independence Concert Band will play patriotic music and a “massive” fireworks display will begin at dusk.
 

KC Riverfest
o Berkley Riverfront Park.
o Hours: 1PM-11PM Saturday & Sunday, July 3rd and 4th.
o There is plenty of food & beverage for purchase, crafts and vendor booths, Kids Play Area (additional charge), Disney Stage for Kids, Country, Bluegrass, Rock, Dixieland Jazz and Ragtime music, and the Mid America Airforce Jazz Band.
o Admission is normally $6, Children under 5 are free. You can save $1 per ticket if you buy your tickets online.
o Small fireworks display on Saturday with a Big Fireworks Extravaganza on Sunday at 10 p.m.

o Free to the Public Event
o Fireworks at dusk
 

Fourth of July at The Elms Resort
Sunday, July 4th
5:30 PM - 10:00 PM
o Family Fun Event with music by The Dave Stephens Band, food, lawn games and fireworks.
o $2 grounds fee per person and children under 5 free. Gates open at 5:30pm with music from 6-9pm.
o Fireworks at 9:30pm.
 

Independence Fireworks Display at the Mormon Visitor Center
o When: July 4
o Where: Mormon Visitor Center (big spire), 937 W. Walnut, Independence, Mo.
o Time: 9:30 p.m.
 

Worlds of Fun has one of the longest standing 4th of July celebrations in the metro. Watch fireworks from within the park or by parking on the east side of I-435 lawn. Explosions begin at 10 p.m.
Smithville Marina Fireworks Display
 

Smithville Marina holds it's annual festivites with a huge display shot off the Smithville dam.
o Smithville Lake, Smithville, MO. Smith Fork Park is located at 1601 DD Highway.
o Dusk, July 4th.
 

Red, White & Boom
Counting Crows and Barenaked Ladies are coming to Starlight Theatre in Kansas City on Tuesday, July 6, 2010. The bands will be joined by American Idol winner Kris Allen, rock group Augustana, singer songwriter Angel Taylor, and other bands as part of Mix 93.3’s annual concert.
