There is a big east-ern showdown going on tomorrow in the Carrier Dome between old foes Syracuse and the Villanova Wildcats in a game pitting two top-10 and undefeated teams on the hardwood. The #2-ranked Orange (11-0) face an old and not at all intimidated adversary from the Philly 5 and the Big East Conference in the 8th-ranked Wildcats.
This has all the feel of a Big East kick-off only it’s not with this being Syracuse’s first season in the ACC and Villanova’s in the reformed basketball power conference. So, two old foes in new leagues with a lot on the line in pride, records, national eyes on the game, and in the Dome so hold on, this should be a blast.
"I'm not sure it will hit me until we are there," says Villanova head coach Jay Wright. "Right now, it feels like we are getting ready to start the Big East season next week and traveling up to the Carrier Dome, like we always have. This is a new test for this group," says Wright. "That's what you go through in a season. It's the first real road game outside of Philadelphia for us. It's the first time in the Dome for (some) of these guys. The first time this group is playing in a game of two undefeated (teams). It's going to be great for us, one way or another. You embrace the challenge. There is an excitement about all of it and I think the guys are really fired up. I could tell when they got back here Christmas night, they were fired up and ready to go."
Syracuse point guard Tyler Ennis spent the holidays at home in Brampton, Ontario with his very tight family which happens to include older brother and Wildcats guard Dylan Ennis who is a redshirt sophomore and transfer from Rice.
