Typically, the 'Top Story' of Chicago's news speaks of violence among youth and unfortunate incidents in the city. Society sees so much negativity as it relates to young men between the ages of 14 - 25, or any young person for that matter. Those who see and hear of these atrocities lose sight of the fact that there still exist - a few good, young men. Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to the 'Top Story' for the day, a young brother who is on the right track and headed in the right direction. On September 13, 2013, Mr. Erwin Henry sat down with Examiner for an interview. Erwin is an 18 year old Senior at Whitney Young Magnet H.S. He is a Shooting Guard on Whitney Young's Varsity Basketball Team. When asked 'Who is Erwin Henry', he described himself as a chilled, relaxed person who enjoys being alone at times. He states: "Sometimes, I don't want to be bothered by others. I just want some peaceful, alone time to myself." Erwin goes on to say that he is a nice person, especially to those who are nice to him and tends to treat others the way they treat him. When asked if there is anything else he wants people to know about Erwin Henry, he states: "I'm a hustler. I don't mind working hard to get what I need and want."
Let's find out more about this young brother's thoughts, visions, dreams, and future insights:
Examiner: What do you do on your spare time?
Erwin: 'I enjoy listening to music, hip-hop and R&B'
Examiner: What is your greatest accomplishment?
Erwin: 'I will consider my greatest accomplishment as me achieving the starting five during my final basketball season with Whitney Young H.S.'
Examiner: If you could be a super hero, what powers would you possess? Why?
Erwin: 'I wouldn't want to be a super hero. I really wouldn't want the stress and responsibility of saving people. That would be too much in this society. But, I would love to have super strength and super powers to read people's minds and fly.'
Examiner: What's your vision of a perfect society?
Erwin: 'World Peace.'
Examiner: If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be? Why? What would you say to them?
Erwin: 'I would like to see my grandmother, Edwina Campbell. I never really got a chance to know her, and would like to just talk with her and ask about her day.'
Examiner: Where do you see yourself in the next 3 - 5 years?
Erwin: 'I see myself graduating from college and playing professional basketball for the NBA or overseas.'
Top Story: There are still a few good, young men out there who aren't hanging out, looking for trouble. There are young men in society like Erwin Henry, who would rather spend time alone, than get into trouble. They have goals and aspirations; and are on the right track to achieving them. They are young men such as Mr. Erwin Henry, Shooting Guard for Whitney Young H.S. Boys' Varsity Basketball Team. Best wishes to this young man on his future endeavors.
