Top seed for north Florida to be determined Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville

The top seed in the Northern Division of the Florida Rugby Union will be determined in Jacksonville, Fla. this Saturday, February 2, as the Tampa Bay Krewe Rugby Football Club (RFC) travels to take on the Jacksonville RFC. This match, which begins at 2 p.m., will take place on Jacksonville’s home pitch at Huffman Park.

If the Krewe (5-1-1) defeats Jacksonville (3-3-0), Tampa Bay takes the top seed in the north going into crossover action next weekend. If Jacksonville defeats Tampa Bay, the Orlando Griffins RFC (5-2-1) will finish regional play at the top, and the Krewe will be forced to settle for second place.

Other men’s matches taking place on Saturday

In addition to the Tampa Bay versus Jacksonville game, there are two other men’s matches scheduled for this Saturday across the state of Florida.

The Daytona Beach Coconuts RFC (2-5-0) will host the St. Petersburg Pelicans RFC (1-5-0) Saturday. The clubs will meet to play this match at Embry-Riddle Field in Daytona Beach, Fla. Kickoff time is 2 p.m.

The other match scheduled for Saturday pairs up the Sarasota Saracens RFC (1-3-0) with the Treasure Coast Pirates RFC (0-4-0). The venue for this match, which kicks off at 2 p.m., had yet to be determined as of the time of publication.

Collegiate Rugby switches into full gear this weekend

Saturday also marks the official beginning of the 2013 Spring Collegiate Rugby Season. The Tampa Bay Rugby Examiner will publish a separate article previewing the college-level rugby matches scheduled this Saturday all across the Sunshine State.
