Top Rank playing bait and switch with Gamboa and Rios?

Boxing fans might suffering from a complicated bait and switch game by Top Rank Promotions

Los Angeles, California - Yuriorkis Gamboa is running scared, ducking and dodging tough as nails Mexican Brandon Rios, or at least that is the sentiment of boxing fans with a limited ability to read into the gospel truth of most boxing news sources.

Fact: Yuriorkis Gamboa has not showed up for two scheduled press conferences this week to promote a scheduled, HBO televised fight with Rios.

Fact: Brandon Rios has had a field day questioning Gamboa’s heart.

Fact: Team Gamboa, through lawyer, Sekou Gary, has informed the public that there may be issues with the Cuban’s promotional ties to Top Rank and Arena Box.

Fact: Top Rank Promotions, lead promoter for the April 14th bout, has not provided any media outlet documents proving that Gamboa had agreed to a fight with Rios.

Now, the opinions of skeptic, pessimist boxing fan like myself:

Opinion: This fight never made sense, with Gamboa going up in weight, and Rios having to battle weight to fight again at the 135 pound limit again.

Opinion: With an April 14th date marketed by HBO, and with Brandon Rios available, Top Rank is in a strong position to feed the network and fans a garbage fight with a cheaper and easier opponent.

Opinion: Most will look at Rios as a tough guy, and think Gamboa is difficult to deal with and avoids fights; a great public relations position for Top Rank, if they are in the process of losing Gamboa.

Looks like a great game of bait and switch by Top Rank, with fans being left disappointed and hungry for action, again.
