No more Fido, Fluffy, of Buddy.
The trend of owners selecting human names for their four-legged companions continues, with the most popular name coming from one of the year's most popular movies.
"Bella" topped the list for dogs and cats, and is in the top three for birds and exotic pets. "Max" ranked in the top five for all four categories.
Veterinary Pet Insurance company searched its database of 485,000 insured animals to compile the results.
“The popularity of people names doubling as pet names is a testament to the bigger trend of pet owners viewing their pets as members of the family,” said Curtis Steinhoff, director of Corporate Communications at VPI in a news release. “It’s now just as common for a pet to be named ‘Oliver’ or ‘Chloe’ as it is for a child.”
The popular names rank high for humans too, as Babycenter.com's 100 most popular names for 2012 are in the top five for pets.
