Are you looking to find like minded entrepreneurs in Boulder, Colorado? Boulder, a hub for startups, has many places where you can network and meet like minded people who are as enthusiastic about upstarts as you.
Boulder’s startup scene is mixed into the hippie, active, and college scene that also exists in town and, because of that, it might be a little hard to figure out who’s who. This article will talk about some popular venues as well as some more secretive venues to find entrepreneurial friends.
Boulder New Tech Meetup
Once a month, the Boulder Denver New Tech Meetup gathers to discuss about new ventures in the area. There are over 400 companies represented from Boulder and over 100 companies from Denver. This is a great place for you to meet other entrepreneurs, make some sales, find a job, find some talent, and whatever else.
There is no cost to the meetups however seating is limited. Usually, come 30 minutes early if you want to meet people or get a good seat. It becomes standing room only very quickly. The event is held at a lecture hall in the University of Colorado’s law school.
Boulder Open Coffee Club
Held once every other week, the Boulder Open Coffee Club takes place at Atlas on Pearl Street. Like the Boulder New Tech Meetup, get there early because seating is hard to find. Unlike the New Tech Meetup, the coffee club is more low key and there are less people in attendance. If big crowds are not your thing, the cozy atmosphere at the coffee club can suit you better.
The coffee club is a great place to meet other entrepreneurs who are eager to make a big impact on the world. You can discuss your current project, their current project, motivation, and anything else hustlers like to talk about over coffee.
CoFoundersLab is a national event where entrepreneurs can meet other entrepreneurs to start businesses. It is sort of like speed dating for entrepreneurs.
If you are a tech person and have a great idea, you can find a great marketer at CoFoundersLab. Or, if you are a great marketer and need to find a great operations person, you can find one at CoFoundersLab. CoFoundersLab is also a great place to meet some potential VCs as well as mentors.
What is co-working? It is basically a cross between a library, coffee shop, office, and hangout. You go to the co-working space to work on your project. They come with free wi-fi, sometimes free coffee, and a lot of other cool perks. Plus, you get to meet with tons of other entrepreneurs when you’re there too.
The benefit of co-working is that you can feed off of the work vibe of others whereas, at home, you’re left with all your favorite distractions or, at a coffee shop, the vibe is pretty uncontrollable. Another cool benefit of co-working is that, lets say you need some photoshop help, there is probably someone in the co-working space who is a photoshop expert! Expert help only a few feet away, how awesome is that.
The Public Library
Here’s a secret about Boulder: the Boulder library rocks. It is quiet, located on the scenic Boulder Creek, and is a haven for entrepreneurs. You’ll often find them at a desk working on their laptops--they usually come several times a week.
The library offers a great work vibe plus all the reference materials you’ll ever need. Pat Wilcox of KnifeUp.com stated, “the Library is my favorite place to work: quiet, focused, and relaxing all in one. I’ve been able to meet great people at the library too. Great minds like to congregate in great places.”
