Continuing with our top selections from Expo West 2013, here are four more exceptional gluten-free products that will be hitting grocery store shelves this year:
DF Mavens non-dairy frozen desserts: Creamier than any other coconut-based frozen dessert on the market, this brand offers a range of exotic flavors including Peanut Butter Fudge Mash, New Orleans Salted Praline and Sicilian Hazelnut Truffle along with more traditional favorites like Madagascar Vanilla and Del Lago Chocolate. Despite the super-premium consistency, the fat and sugar content are on par with other non-dairy frozen desserts. This is a brand to watch.
Daiya Spreads, Slices and Pizza: Vegans were all abuzz at this year’s Expo thanks to Daiya’s simultaneous launch of three new product lines: cream cheese-style spreads in Plain, Strawberry and Chive & Onion flavors, slices in Cheddar, Swiss and Provolone varieties, and four frozen pizzas options: Cheeze Lover’s, Margherita, Fire-Roasted Vegetable and Mushroom & Roasted Garlic. All items are free of the top eight allergens, including wheat, dairy and soy, making them suitable for a range of special diets.
Flax4Life Chocolate Cake: Last year they wowed us with their gluten-free sandwich buns; this year Flax4Life introduced brownies and a ready-to-serve chocolate cake. The cake is light and airy with an irresistible buttercream-style frosting and is available with colored sprinkles suitable for birthdays and other special occasions. Although it boasts 1170mg of Omega 3 per slice, it’s so authentic tasting, you’d never know it’s good for you.
Victoria Fine Foods Alfredo Sauces: Made from a base of cashew cream and herbs, this line of four jarred sauces is ideal for vegans and celiacs alike. Available in Original, Roasted Pepper, Artichoke, and Arugula Pesto varieties, they are non-GMO verified and taste great on pasta, vegetables or salads. We tried the Arugula Pesto variety and it made us a believer.
Watch for the final installment of our food product picks tomorrow, followed by our favorite gluten-free beverages from the show.
