It is possible to home school for free or almost free. The following five websites offer free home school curriculum or textbooks. Be sure to read all disclaimers before you sign up. Most of these websites require registration.

Hippocampus
Completely free online AP courses. This website requires registration. The courses are free. Students may want to locate a companion textbook. Parents will have to check with local high schools and colleges in order to determine where the AP exam can be taken. There is usually a fee for the test.

Flatworld Knowledge
A fabulous resource for free college textbooks. Teens that are dual enrolled or those taking college courses will save a bundle using this website. Most of the books are free in pdf format. Other options are available at discount pricing, including print.

The Jason Project
Middle and high school students will enjoy the free science curriculum from the Jason Project. Unit studies in weather, ecosystems and energy are free for download in pdf format. Online labs, activities and discussions complete the experience.

Ambleside Online
A complete "how to" for those who follow Charlotte Mason's educational philosophy. Charlotte Mason is a Christian based curriculum that promotes literacy from an early age. It is more than just a book list however. The website gives you everything you need to know about Charlotte Mason's educational model.

Discovery Streaming Education
Arkansas homeschoolers are entitled to a free subscription to Discovery Streaming. A passcode from AETN is required in order to subscribe. For students, streaming videos on every subject at every age level is available. For homeschool parents resources include lesson plans, curriculum standards, an interactive atlas and ideas for teaching, lessons and projects.
