Top five fitness trends of 2008


 

Before you pen a resolution for '09, it might be helpful to look back at the fitness trends of 2008 that have kept exercisers on track throughout the year. The American Council on Exercise, American College of Sports Medicine and several online sites compile annual lists of trends, which they believe had the most significant impact. These five trends made almost every list.

1. Boot Camp Workout.  Boot camp style workouts climbed to the peak of popularity in 2007 and have remained popular in 2008.  Webmd.com predicts the military inspired workout will stay on top of the heap for 2009. The format is appealing to fitness newbies and veterans alike because it combines calisthenic exercises that are easy to learn but still pack a powerful punch. And because it requires little or no equipment it can be done at home, outside, or at the gym.
