Top five August festivals in Orange County

August is a time for getting ready to return to school or college, as well as some of the last fairs and festivals of the summer. Add them to your calendar and make time to enjoy one of more, amid the preparations for back-to-school.

The 25th consecutive Harvest Crusade which takes place at Angel Stadium in Anaheim is an opportunity for Christians to have family, co-workers, friends and acquaintances attend and hear life-changing messages from the gospel in an entertaining and non-threatening environment. The cornerstone of each event is the presentation of the gospel by Pastor Greg Laurie who is in his 40th year of Ministry.

2. Pacific Festival The Dunes

This is the second event of the Pacific Festival at the Dunes. This outdoor summer seaside festival in Newport Beach will showcase live entertainment, local food, and waterfront stages in many entertainment areas. A new VIP Village allows attendees to experience, a main stage viewing area, liquor and beer bar, and special DJ entertainment. The Beer Flag Fish Company, the Lime Truck, and others will be providing local eats, and beach activities will add more fun to the festival.

Apart from being fun the festival also is a fund raiser for 'Surfrider Foundation', $1 from each ticket sold will be donated to them. Attendees must be 18 years or over for admission to the festival grounds, and at least 21 years with ID to purchase beer, wine and liquor.

For those who wish to make a weekend get-a-way the festival has partnered with the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach for special rates, rooms can be booked online and guests will find the hotel is within walking distance of the festival grounds.

The Newport Beach City Arts Commission will be presenting on Sunday Aug. 17 ‘Southland Sings’, a lively American Musical Theater performance by the vocal talents of the Southland Opera. This is part of their free summer concerts and goes from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Bring your picnic basket, a beach chair, and a blanket or light sweater, and come enjoy one of the last summer concerts.

4. Annual Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo

This annual rodeo is for the entire family and features saddle bronc and bareback riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, bull riding, and team roping. The 2-day event opens at 2 p.m. on Saturday and 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, with music, followed by the opening ceremony, then the rodeo. On Saturday it ends with a concert and dance starting at 6 p.m. and featuring Chancey Williams and The Younger Brothers Band.

Rancho Mission Viejo is committed to the preservation of the cowboy way of life which includes the cowboy tradition of ‘passing the hat’, thus all proceeds from the rodeo is used to benefit local charities.

Parking is off 30753 La Pata Rd and is included with each adult ticket.

5. The Orange International Street Fair

The Orange International Street Fair Inc., was founded in 1985 to put on the annual Orange International Street Fair in Old Town Orange. This group helps to support non-profit groups in the city. The Food booths are put on by local non-profit organizations and are located at North and South Glassell St and East and West Chapman Ave.; handmade Arts & Crafts booths, and Community booths will be located around Plaza Park; and there will be a Commercial section for merchants to promote their business.

A street just for kids will be located on North Orange St at East Chapman Ave featuring games, crafts, and snacks it is geared to the younger crowd. In addition there will be 8 stages with entertainment by local bands playing ethnic music.

The event is sponsored by Budlight, Budweiser, Law Offices of Phillip Hummell IV; Sparkling ICE, Ford, Familia Folks Productions.
