Top five articles of 2012

Something I have done at the end of each year since starting this column is looking back at some of my favorite articles from the past year. 2012 is quickly coming to an end so here are my top five favorite articles of the year:

5) Doom & Destiny XBLIG review - October 12

Doom & Destiny was one of the first Xbox LIVE Indie games that I played to review and I loved it so much I became highly interested in XBLIGs in general. I eventually landed a gig as the XBLIG Reviewer over at www.thisisxbox.com. Many indie games don't get the due credit that they deserve and I want to change that. Anybody who likes old school turn-based RPGs, should definitely check out Doom & Destiny. For just 400 Microsoft Points you get a full blown RPG worth dozens of hours of gameplay.

4) How cheaters cheat: aimbots - July 20

I resurrected an old series of mine this year called "How cheaters cheat" with a new entry about aimbots. Many gamers probably don't even realize things like aimbots exist on consoles. Although they are thankfully not very widespread, they are still out there. It is ridiculous people need to use silly tools like this just to play a game online without getting owned. I also published another article in the series this year about boosting.

3) Are video games worth a $60 price tag? - August 3

This article came about after reading a horribly written piece on a gaming blog which tried to make the argument that games aren't worth their cost. This is obviously nonsense. Games are well worth a $60 price tag when you compare them to other mediums of entertainment. I will admit that one reason this article is so important to me is that Glen Schofield, the co-founder of Sledgehammer Games, actually emailed me after reading it saying that he agreed with me completely and to keep up the good work. Thanks, Mr. Schofield!

2) Q&A interview with Jarett Cale from Pure Pwnage - November 13

I have been a fan of Pure Pwnage since discovering the show when episode seven of season one first aired. That was way back in 2005! It is hard to believe how huge Pure Pwnage has become since then and that now they are making a full length movie out of it! This show pretty much legitimized the concept of a web series and it was an honor for me to be able to personally speak with one of its creators.

1) Q&A interview with Michael Pachter - August 20

This was another interview that was a huge honor for me to conduct. I have been one of Michael Pachter's biggest fans ever since he began regularly making appearances on Geoff Keighley's show the Bonus Round years ago. Pachter now has his own show on GameTrailers called Pach-Attack! and I never miss an episode. Some people dislike Pachter but the fact of the matter is, if he wasn't good at his job, he wouldn't be making so much money doing it. Pachter is smart and a genuinely nice guy. Being able to interview him for my column was definitely the highlight of my year.
