Top fashion designers customize black leather bears for The Other Ball auction

Arms Around the Child, a non profit charitable organization designed to to provide a loving home, medical treatment, protection, respect and education for children who have lost their parents to AIDS or who are living in adversity, suffering from sexual abuse, neglect, or exploitation launches a brand new event annual event called The Other Ball hosted by Topshop Topman. Haute couture icons and top fashion designers are all donating signature leather bears in order to help raise funds to protect children from adversity and exploitation. High-fashion designers like Christian Louboutin, Alexander Wang, Topshop Topman, Opening Ceremony, Simon Doonan, Chromat, Thom Browne will each design a leather bear in their own personal style and will be auctioned off at the event.

Hosted by British producer, musician and DJ Mark Ronson, and together with kindred souls to transcend the machine, lift the spirit and honor the power of music to create a global social change The Other Ball will be held on December 10, 2013, at the Highline Ballroom in New York City. Performing live will be rock band The Black Keys, Nate Ruess lead singer of the group FUN, Swedish singer and songwriter Lykke Li, rapper A$AP Rocky, Mikky Ekko, Miguel under the musical directorship of Jeff Bhasker and Samantha Ronson will be djing through out the evening.

Aside from the leather bears, up for auction will also be some incredible items and experiences that range from a Topshop Topman shopping spree, a meet and greet with Usher at a taping of The Voice, custom made Christian Louboutins, a personalized voice mail recording from the likes of Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney and Alicia Keys, a one on one chat with Bruno Mars and a signed guitar and one of kind custom made black and white art piece by Nissim Ben Aderat that will be created at the actual event.

“We are incredibly grateful to the artists who have generously donated their time and skills to create unique items to benefit children who are suffering and need our support,” says Leigh Blake, President of Arms Around the Child.“Through our auction at The Other Ball, we will be able to protect many kids who would otherwise be prey to sexual abuse, exploitation, hunger and neglect.”

The Other Ball draws awareness to 153 million children who have lost their parents, become infected with HIV or other diseases, fallen prey to those out to harm them or have been trafficked, sold or sexually abused. Arms Around the Child was founded by Leigh Blake, a long time AIDS activist who revolutionized public engagement by harnessing the power of pop culture and leveraging the currency of celebrity to raise awareness and incite action against the AIDS epidemic and help to supports local organizations that provide services to children including HIV/AIDS-affected children around the world.
