Top Clinton aide under investigation for 2008 campaign

Minyon Moore did not run for public office in 2008; however, the senior Clinton aide is alleged to have managed a shadow campaign for Hillary Clinton that spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on her behalf.

The question is whether the media and Washington District Court lawyers use Moore as a sacrificial lamb, or link their investigation to the actual candidate.Moore, a senior campaign advisor to Clinton, is under investigation for an alleged scheme to fund pro-Clinton operations in four states and Puerto Rico, spending $608,750 during Clinton's failed campaign for the Democratic Party’s presidential primary. The shadow campaign Moore oversaw was supposed to get out the urban vote in targeted cities.

Prosecutors say the pro-Clinton campaign managed by Moore was conducted “off the books,” which is in clear violation of U.S. law that provides for strict limitations and reporting on campaign funding for candidates.

Testimony by Washington businessman Jeffrey Thompson, who pleaded guilty Monday on corruption charges in a case largely relating to his role in the capital city's 2010 mayoral race, implicated Moore. Even though Moore, a senior Clinton aide, is under investigation, prosecutors have not asked Clinton to testify or linked the former secretary of state to the case.

Meanwhile, mainstream media has tiptoed quietly around the campaign funding scandal as the Ruth Buzzi of foreign policy patiently awaits her 2016 coronation.

However, as Jesse Jackson Jr., the bipolar master of campaign-funded home improvement projects discovered, funding scandals can flare up in less time than it takes to set a $43,000 Rolex watch.

It may come down to Moore deciding whom she fears the most, D.C. prosecutors or the Clinton political machine that employs her. Even the most pocketable judge may not look the other way in the face of hard evidence.

Then there is the press. Even the see-no-evil, hear-no-evil Benghazi-hardened Washington media would risk copious damage to its credibility by defending the indefensible.

On the other hand, the collective silence of mainstream media already seems to suggest that Hillary did not have campaign relations with that woman, Minyon Moore.
