'Top Chef' recap: the pea puree mystery of the century

The drama continues.

Even on a show called "Top Chef", who would have ever thought we would see an episode in which the main dramatic push centered around missing pea puree? Well, it's finally happened.

Before we get to that, though, we have to stumble over what is something we pretty much expect every week now -- Angelo winning a challenge. He managed to take home the prize by winning this week's Quickfire, creating a dish small enough to fit onto a toothpick. It was a pretty creative way for the chefs to cook, and it also represented something very Washington -- how much lobbyists could get away with when it came to taking a Congressman out to lunch. Angelo's winning creation was a cucumber cup, otherwise known as something he proclaimed "old-school".

The caper

Following that, we then have the mystery of the week. The Elimination Challenge this week was all about the chefs picking a protein, and then finding a way to fix it up at the historic Palm restaurant for a prestigious crowd.

Both Alex and Ed had one item they wanted in their dish more than anything else -- pea puree, which really doesn't sound all that appetizing to begin with when you say it. Alex was oblivious as to what he wanted to make with his salmon that night, but Ed was talking about his pea idea.

To everyone at home, it looks pretty obvious that Alex -- who has already solidified himself as one of the creepiest "Top Chef" contestants ever thanks to his strange and often sexual remarks -- stole the puree right out of the cooler. However, he claimed to the judges and the camera that he made it, and it was just a "coincidence" that Ed's happening to be missing.

Of course, this was all made worse by the fact that Alex was actually chosen for having the best dish of the night. So good for him, and bad for pretty much everyone who wants to jump on his ethics.

After all this drama, it's hard to even remember there being an elimination. Andrea lacked much experience when it comes to making swordfish, and it showed in her dish. Now, she can go back to Miami (and hopefully stay away from her rival who showed up on here earlier this season).

if you watch the footage - right after kenny talks about his lamb chops and right before they show angelo's cut finger, you see a pot with peas on the stove. So unless someone else made peas on the show - it looks like Alex did cook his peas and the puree them.

Sherry, Ed made peas with his asparagus, remember the judges complained that the peas weren't necessary, he didnt have time to make his puree so he just boiled peas.

The peas on the stove may have been Ed's - the way the producers edited this episode really sucks - they created this unnecessary controversy as though fans wanted it - morons.
