Top cat names of 2012

For the past several years, I’ve chuckled as I’ve looked at the top cat name lists. Up at the top, or very close to it, is the name Max. We go to a cat-only vet and no matter what day we stop by, there always seems to be more than one Max in the waiting room. There also seems to be a Max each day on their Facebook page. So much for my originality!

That’s why I really love this list from EntirelyPets.com. I’m not sure who they surveyed or how they came up with their list, but I love that there are many very cool names on the lists. Here’s a peek.

Male names

On many other lists, names like Max, Tiger, Smokey and Leo pop up, not this one. It's very refreshing to see a few new names in the mix in 2012.

  1. Dexter
  2. Cooper
  3. Louie
  4. Loki
  5. Henry
  6. Teddy
  7. Marley
  8. Tucker
  9. Ziggy
  10. Winston

Female names

Popular names on many lists include Bella, Chloe, Daisy and the ever-original Kitty are all are missing as well. I'm also surprised that Katniss isn't in the top 10.

  1. Lola
  2. Stella
  3. Izzy
  4. Zoe
  5. Lulu
  6. Luna
  7. Nana
  8. Penny
  9. Ruby
  10. Willow

Most unusual names

Some people have a lot of fun naming their cats. My vote is for one, two and seven.

  1. Pico de Gato
  2. Dumpster Kitty
  3. Schnickelfritz
  4. Koobenfarben
  5. Sassy Pants Huska
  6. Vincent Van Furball
  7. Kitty Gaga
  8. Beefra
  9. Mister Bigglesworth (hello, Dr. Evil)
  10. Ozzy Pawsbourne

For the record, our current kitties are Max and Ellie. We’ve also been graced through the years with Scarlett, Rhett, Smokey Jo, Frosty and Tigre (x3). The latest puppy in the family is a Stella, but that’s another story. What have you named your cats?
