Current NBA superstar Kobe Bryant recently publicly endorsed Manny Pacquiao when asked by the media who he would choose between Manny and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Kobe didn't hesitate in his answer and revealed his admiration for Boxing's pound for pound champion. According to a Tuesday report by OpposingViews.com, Kobe Bryant made the following comments:
"Manny's a good friend, I actually love him. I love his tenacity, I love his competitiveness, you know what I mean? So, Manny's my guy."
Kobe was part of a group of NBA players who are touring Asia sponsored by Nike and stopped in Manila, Philippines for a basketball game. Kobe, and other NBA players like Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose, all took the time to greet Manny Pacquiao and take pictures with the global icon.
Without heavily criticizing Mayweather, Kobe's endorsement of Pacquiao is just a small example of how many top American athletes are coming out and choosing Manny over Floyd. However, the attention that the NBA stars gave to Manny has just come on the heels of Dana White's harsh comments about Floyd. Last week UFC President Dana White blasted Floyd Jr. and blamed the undefeated boxer for the problems in Boxing. Then White said Pacquiao is the best in boxing.
Floyd's actions over the last few years have caused him to lose many boxing fans and celebrity fans. However, Floyd has a chance to turn things around on September 17th as his "Star Power" PPV is beginning to take shape with the addition of Canelo Alvarez to the PPV card. Floyd will fight in the main event of the night against WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on HBO PPV.
About 8 weeks later, Manny Pacquiao will be fighting Juan Manuel Marquez in the same building on November 12th. The Trilogy Fight has yet to find a PPV home as both HBO and Showtime are bidding on it.
