Will you be flying into Thailand in the next few months but don't want to spend all your time in Bangkok? Then you may be looking for the top airlines for travel within Thailand, so you can see a little more of the country. Luckily, there are quite a few excellent airlines that fly all over Thailand and at prices you may find it hard to believe.
Air Asia - The most popular airline in Thailand by far is Air Asia. They're an international budget airline that flies all over Asia, but they also fly to just about any place in Thailand you might want to visit.
Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Udon Thani, Krabi and Hat Yai are just a few places Air Asia flies to within Thailand. Add onto that flights as cheap as 3,000 to 5,000 baht ($99 to $165) round-trip and it's easy to see why so many people fly them all over the country.
Bangkok Airways - This excellent Thai airline flies to nine major cities within the country, and with several flights a day to most of them.
You can fly out of Bangkok and visit Chiang Mai, Krabi, Lampang, Pattaya and Trat to name just some of them. Flights usually begin at around 3,000 baht ($99) but they are currently running their mid-year sale, so you can fly to Chiang Mai for as cheap as 1,790 baht ($59) and Krabi for 1,990 baht ($65).
If you do plan on flying with Bangkok Airways, book as much in advance as you can but wait until one of their sales pops up. You can easily save over $100 round-trip if you do.
Thai Airways - Thai Airways is Thailand's national carrier so, as you can imagine, it's not particularly cheap. In fact, in many cases you will pay double or more on Thai Airways for flights to most parts of the country.
However, if you're looking for an airline that generally departs and arrives on time, has superb on-board service and offers several flights a day to all in-country destinations, Thai Airways is a good choice.
If you do book on Thai Airways anywhere in Thailand, be sure to do so on their website as they often have special deals not available through a travel agent or on the phone. Deals include some cheaper flights, but also feature bonus miles and extra baggage allowance. The higher baggage allowance can be a godsend if you really don't like traveling light, or if you plan on buying a large number of souvenirs on your travels.
