Now that we are in the Information Age of time and with smartphones being a thing that is going to stay awhile here, everyone is interconnected on the inter-webs via Facebook. And I mean, if you don't have a Facebook by now then who are you anyway? I kid, but surely if you are reading this, you have at least checked your Facebook within the past week. Why does everyone check their Facebook anyway? I would say mostly for the interaction of your peers but its always going to be about the news feed AKA the who, what, where, why and how of your life. I hate to admit it but I just checked mine for some inspiration for this post. Anyway, here is what you can likely find on your news feed today:
1. The Rant
As known as the complaint in other circles, this status update will either rattle what you known about the world and have you agree or it will immediately push you to unfriend the ranter. This status could be about anything: gas prices, politics, how the education system does/doesn't work, or just a rant about how Mondays suck. You will see this update and you will either do one of three things: like it and perhaps comment on it, be disgusted and ignore it, or hate it and unfriend that person. Maybe not the last one, but I have participated in the last option before so you never know, you might see a hate-Obama status and may never want to talk to that person ever again.
2. The Inspirational Quote
Also could be the self-portrait picture with a quote to accompany it as a caption but has nothing to do with the picture at all. I have seen many of these (referring to the self-portraits) and I always ask myself why do people do it. The quote serves no relevance to the picture and vice-versa so why do it? Welp, can't change people but live without them. Anyways, usually people will post quotes because they relate to what that person is going through or because the quote resonates with them in some way. I generally like these.
3. The Promoter
Events, events, tags and more events and maybe so more tags. This status update will tell you what is going on, when and just go link-crazy. Also spam, spam, spam. Also, this status will start off with "Got nothing to do tonight 'insert event title here'" or "You gotta check out the hottest event in town tonight @ 'insert event title here'". Makes you wonder if this Facebook friend is actually an automated robot that spews rubbish and advertisements.
4. The Accomplishment
I actually like this type of status update. I would like everyone I know to enjoy success whether it be a job offer or just passing a really difficult test. So when I see someone doing well for themselves, it always warrants a like among the many other likes and a smile from even though the person cannot see the smile, you will know that your success is in my thoughts.
5. The 'what I did today and where'
Generic but the most used, some people just use Facebook as their personal diary and post what they did for the day or what they are currently doing and where. This status update makes it very easy for stalkers and such and people still do it and maybe even with pictures. This kind of status does fuel the engine that is Facebook though so it will be here to stay. Wouldn't it be better to keep a real diary now that Facebook can use your statuses because anything on Facebook is their property now?
6. The Food
Possibly my favorite type of status update and also my most hated because I am jealous of that person for eating such a delectable piece of heaven and I am suck with whatever is in the fridge. These posts are most likely relegated to Instagram (Thank god) but the ones that do appear on Facebook, I give it my initial attention and then despised it with the wrath of equal to how hungry I am.
