Joining a commercial gym is not for everybody, and in fact probably only for the minority.  On the other hand, finding a specialized gym that can suit your needs is a great idea.  If, you are going to take going to the gym seriously, get a solid workout at the gym, and make it a habit.  Otherwise you are wasting your time and money. 

The top 5 reasons to join a gym

You have no idea what you are doing

In this case you need to either hire a personal trainer to come to your house (expensive) or go to a gym and hire a personal trainer(less expensive).  One that really knows what he is talking about and how to meet your individual goals and needs.

Equipment

You will have access to thousands of dollars worth of equipment.  Although this isn't always a good thing or needed, it is there just in case.

Proper mindset

Going to the gym can get you in the proper mindset to workout.  Just the same as going to your office gets you in the mindset to work.

Motivation

Although gyms can be a negative motivator for some, if you have the proper mindset (as in a positive, your an achiever mindset) the gym atmosphere can push you to train harder.  There can also be great camaraderie at certain gyms that can urge you on.

Friends

Although this shouldn't be the main reason for going to the gym, you may find people of similar interests and attitudes there.  You may even find a great workout partner to keep you coming week after week, good workout buddies are great motivators.
