Top 5 picks from the New York Makeup Show

The New York Makeup Show happened nearly a month ago, but the buzz in the artistry community is still going strong. Never mind the unprecedented number of attendees, the incredible line up of speakers and the amazing workshops—the products, once again, took center stage.

Here are Alice’s Top 5 picks from the New York Makeup Show:

1. OCC Lip Tar

This hyper-pigmented, feather-weight, hybrid lipstick/lip-gloss product came about to address the needs of HD video. A tiny drop of Lip Tar goes on like a gloss, but finishes like a beautiful matte-stain lipstick and lasts (and lasts). It’s what you want lipstick to be.

2. Jao Hand Refresher

Heavenly. It’s easy to see why Jao Hand Refresher is the go-to waterless hand sanitizer for all makeup pros. Jao’s lavender-scented, 99.8% natural formula doesn’t leave the sticky residue that most drug-store hand sanitizers do. What it does do is leave you relaxed and smelling incredible.

3. YSL Pure Chromatics eye shadows

Just add water to Yves St. Laurent’s new line of wet/dry shadows and quadruple the color impact.

4. Makeup Forever Aqualiner

Take a test spin with this one by doodling a heart in Iridescent Fuchsia on your hand, and then partying the night away. You’ll come home to discover that the heart will still be there—and it won’t wash off, not even with regular hand soap. No more smudgy, runny eyeliner, thanks to Makeup Forever.

5. Bdellium Brushes

So soft to the touch, high quality and super affordable, there is nothing not to like about Bdellium’s growing line of anti-bacterial (and now, eco-friendly bamboo handled) brushes.

The Makeup Show is organized annually by Metropolitan Pavilion. The event celebrated its sixth year in New York City on May 15th and 16th. If you missed the New York show, you can catch it in Chicago from June 12 - June 13, 2011.
