"Game Of Thrones" is one of the most exciting and entertaining shows on television. Not only is it full of beautiful women, cunning deceit and epic betrayals, but the show also doesn’t have a problem killing off characters at a moments notice, even if they are some of the more popular people on the show. Spoiler alert if you are not up to date on the series. Here is a look at the top five most shocking deaths in "Game of Thrones" thus far.
You couldn’t be too surprised that Viserys Targaryen died during "Game Of Thrones". However, what truly made it shocking was just how brutal and violent his death was. Known for being incredibly entitled and even more conniving, Viserys Targaryen would do anything for power and getting ahead. But when his sister, Daenerys, became the wife of Khal Drago, Viserys’ time was numbered. Drago would pour a bowl of molten gold onto Viserys’ head, making for one of the most gruesome, yet awesome, deaths of the series.
Just when Khal Drago was transitioning to a behemoth killer into a passionate lover, he was offed right before his wife began to take over the show. Despite killing the man who he was in battle with, Drogo would get a wound that quickly became much more concerning. During the process, Mirri Maz Duur tricked him into thinking she was curing him, when really she was slowly killing him for revenge. If it makes Drogo fans feel any better, Daenerys got her revenge by also killing Mirri, just before she walked into a flame of fire, grabbed three dragons and subsequently became one of the most entertaining characters in the entire show.
Cateyln Stark’s death came as a shock to everyone. In what seemed to be a wedding between two families that were looking to join together in an attempt to gain power in the kingdom, all would quickly change in the event known as The Red Wedding. It was during this wedding that Robb Stark would also be killed, as Catelyn had to brutally watch. But the season came to an end as one of the shows most popular characters had her throat slit to end season 3.
Fans of "Game Of Thrones" may have been happy to see Joffrey Baratheon die, but that doesn’t change the fact that it was equally as shocking. In yet another wedding –maybe these characters should begin being more aware of the events at weddings- King Joffrey was marrying his new queen, Margaery Tyrell. Just moments after mocking his brother, Joffrey would take a bit of his wedding cake. However, just moments later his face turned purple and he began to choke. Even if you were happy to see the tyrant go, it would’ve been nice to see Daenerys swoop in on the kingdom and have her dragons burn Joffrey to flames.
Before it all began and casual fans of the show didn’t realize that any character could die at just any time, Eddard Stark was certainly the first shocking one of the series. He was the main focus in season one, also playing the role of the compassionate protagonist that was trying his best to do good for his family and his kingdom. But, as seen over and over in "Game Of Thrones", doing good doesn’t mean anything. Instead, after confessing to treason, Joffrey Baratheon sentenced Eddard to be beheaded, which set off the war between House Stark and House Lannister.
As many great deaths as there have been in "Game Of Thrones", it will only continue to build in the future. As for now, these certainly rank atop the list with the five most exciting.
