Before delving into the overflowing bounty of material from which this list is being drawn, it is first necessary to clarify its parameters. Unlike those on the left who freely use/misuse the word, lie (as in, "Bush lied about WMD in Iraq..."), this list will be comprised of statements that are not only false, but are also intentionally misleading for selfish or even evil purposes.
Making a statement that is merely false does not comprise a lie, even if the person making the statement knows the statement to be untrue. If a man tells his wife they are going for a quiet dinner at home, only to joyfully surprise her with an unexpected birthday bash with close friends and loved ones, it would be quite a stretch to call his untrue statement a lie. The husband may have spoken untruthfully, but the motives were clearly to the benefit of his wife.
By contrast, if one of the attendees is a female co-worker with whom the husband is having an affair, and he introduces the woman to his wife as merely a colleague, then there can be no argument against the allegation that he lied. Even though his statement was technically true - she is a co-worker - he lied by omission, concealing the true nature of their relationship to his own benefit, at the expense and to the harm of his wife.
In the example of George W Bush and the WMD in Iraq, there is absolutely no evidence that Bush lied. The fact is that WMD were found in Iraq. There is a great amount of evidence that ties the WMD being used in Syria to the Iraqi cache that was shipped out prior to the US-led invasion by Coalition forces. With that stated, even if WMD had never been found in Iraq, that fact would still not make George W Bush a liar on the issue. If Bush honestly believed the intelligence he had been provided, then there is no reason to doubt that he was acting in good faith, even if the intelligence turned out to be false. In other words, honest mistakes do not count as lies.
In the second term of the Obama presidency, with two presidential campaigns in the rear-view mirror, there are literally hundreds of statements made by Barack Obama that have proven to be false. Reasonable people will disagree as to what percentage of those hundreds of empty promises and false statements, or statements that turned out to be untrue, are lies in actuality. Where there is no room for argument is that there is a quite substantial list of literally dozens of statements made by Obama that are outright lies.
The first large-scale lie Obama uttered as President occurred a mere three days into his first term, and is actually number three on this list. It illustrates another kind of lie, where a person makes a statement of commitment that he completely lacks the resolve to keep. By the end of this very short list, culled from a very large pile, it will be plainly evident that Obama has a long list of statements that make any allegation of lying made against George W Bush laughable by comparison.
5) Fiscal Responsibility: “Today I am pledging to cut the deficit we inherited in half by the end of my first term in office.” - February 2009.
The truth: With Obama as President, the current year is the first year that Obama will not run a deficit of more than $1 Trillion. The projected deficit for FY 2013 is expected to come in just shy of $700 Billion - big success. In addition, Obama has created more US debt than all of the presidents before him, including his immediate predecessor. The debt Obama inherited was just over $6 Trillion. He called that, "unpatriotic." The debt now stands at close to $17 Trillion. Regarding the "unpatriotic" comment, perhaps he was trying to tell America something about himself.
4) Healthcare Insurance (ACA): "If you like your plan, you can keep it."
There is no date on this statement, because it has been a running central assertion in his efforts to sell Obamacare to the nation. At the time of this writing, more than two million Americans have received cancellation notices from their private insurance carriers. That number is rapidly climbing. In addition, several news sources have uncovered evidence that Obama knew early in 2010 (possibly even before then) that more than 60% of those who carried private insurance policies had a strong likelihood of being cancelled, due to the regulations imposed on insurance companies and the requirements for coverage. The lies and deceptions continue to swirl around this issue, as those who defend Obama claim they have eliminated policies that were sub-par. The question is, who gets to decide what is sub-par? A person who is in good health may want the option of a cheaper policy that requires them to pay a greater share of the burden for treatment, should they need it. The real problem for Obama is that the uncovering of this lie has provided new fuel for those who believe this is just the next step towards Obama's ultimate goal of a single-payer, government-controlled health insurance / health care system. While this lie has earned Obama the prestigious "Four Pinocchios" rating from the Washington Post, there are still three that rank higher - for now.
3) Transparency: "We should never forget that we are here as public servants... We need to make the White House the People's House... As of today, lobbyists will be subject to stricter limits than under any other administration in history." - Barack Obama, three days into the first term of his presidency.
This quote is being coupled with his ongoing promise to conduct the most transparent administration in history. The two issues go hand-in-hand, and Obama's record on both fronts belies a complete disregard for any pledge he made regarding either. Obama has had as many as 116 lobbyists working in his administration. Remember also that Obama promised that hearings on important matters such as the budget and healthcare would be broadcast live on C-Span, and that any proposed legislation would be posted on the Internet for several days before the legislation would be voted upon or signed into law, so people could know what was in it before it was passed. Of course, when it came to the 16,000-plus page healthcare reform - regarded as Obama's signature achievement - America was told the law had to be passed before we could see what was in it. As to how well that is working, see Number 4 above. Even more astonishing is that, as recently as February of this year, Mr. Obama still maintains that he is running the most transparent administration in history. On that one, we will give him the benefit of the doubt, and we will not say he is lying. Merely deluded.
The lies on this issue are so outrageous and wide-ranging that it is impossible to narrow it down to just one quote. First, Obama claimed it was a spontaneous reaction caused by outrage over an obscure YouTube video. On September 12, the day after the attack, Obama made a general reference to terrorism during a speech in the Rose Garden, but over the next 7 - 10 days, continued to reference the video as the cause of the attack - as if that even makes sense to begin with. The outrage expressed by the administration seemed to be slightly more directed at the video than at those who murdered four Americans in a terrorist attack. Then, during a presidential debate, Obama tried to claim he had called Benghazi a terrorist attack during the Rose Garden speech on September 12. This earned him a "Four Pinocchios" rating from the Washington Post on this issue. Then, two days before the election, CBS revealed a previously-edited segment of an interview conducted with Obama on the evening of the Rose Garden speech where he clearly avoided calling it an act of terror. Of course, days after the Rose Garden speech, both Obama and Clinton stood mere feet from the caskets of the victims, and vowed to the victim's families that they were going to find the person responsible for the video and bring him to justice... Clearly, they were serious about that, because the man who made the video is indeed in jail. In the meantime, not a single terrorist who took part in the attack on the American embassy in Benghazi has been located.
1) Christianity: "I am a Christian, and I am a devout Christian..." - Christianity Today, 2008
There is what a person says, then there is what he does. Under President Obama, every revolution he has supported in the Middle East has resulted in the takeover of that country by the Muslim Brotherhood, including Egypt and Libya, among others. In addition, Obama refused to support a revolution in Iran that had the potential of overthrowing a radical Muslim who remains hostile to Israel. Not only has the Muslim Brotherhood thrived in the Middle East under Obama, and with his aid, there are reports that the Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated the administration. In the meantime, news reports trickle in daily about the ongoing slaughter of Christians in Egypt, Syria and many other regions, and Obama does not even issue a statement of condemnation. Defenders of Obama are quick to cite the fact that Obama issued the order to get bin Laden. What they choose to ignore is that the members of the military team that carried out the assignment were delivered to the enemy only a few months later, as they were flown in a Chinook helicopter over a live battlefield at low altitude. Even so, at night, they would have been tough to identify and target, yet they were delivered into hands that seemed to be waiting for them.
If there is any truth to the ideal that a person is to be evaluated not by his words, but by his actions and results, then Obama's claim to Christianity is the biggest lie of them all. Even in the aftermath of Benghazi, and the attack on the US embassy in Cairo, the response of this administration was to apologize to the Muslim radicals who attacked us, even going so far as to provide them with justification for their actions in killing four Americans as a plausible response to a video they found offensive (if they even saw it at all)? At what point does the "Christian president" back his words with actions by standing up for the rights of Christians in America, and taking action against the slaughter of innocents who are being tortured, killed and imprisoned for their faith?
There is now a five-year record of Barack Hussein Obama, and it is plainly evident what issues prompt him to speak up, and what circumstances spur him to meaningful action. A bird's eye view of his overall record of words and deeds reveals that his heart is with Islam, and his allegiance is to the Muslim Brotherhood.
