Searching for a job can be a challenging task and can be incredibly frustrating if you do not see the results you are looking for. If you are having trouble landing the job of your dreams, it may not necessarily be your lack of skills or knowledge. The problem may be your behavior. When you search jobs in USA, avoid the following behaviors to improve your chances of success.

Being Dishonest on Your Resume

A resume is designed to highlight your skills, accomplishments and your experience. While you may not have to disclose every single detail about your work history, you do have to be honest about what you do present to potential employers.

Avoid exaggerating your achievements or creating new attractive titles for your previously-held positions. If you do wind up getting hired and are unable to attain the same results in your “doctored” resume, your employer may not be too forgiving. If they happen to find out that you were lying about your credentials or experience, you may lose your job and tarnish your reputation.

Not Being Diligent in Your Search

Searching for a job online can be incredibly convenient. With most employers looking for digital resumes, there is no longer a need to run to several different locations to drop off resumes in person. However, it is still important to be diligent in your job search. If you fill out a dozen applications in one week, do not complain about not hearing a response weeks later. It is essential that you continue submitting resumes and only stop once you have actually landed a job.

Not Respecting Your Interviewer’s Time

Remember, the person interviewing you will be taking time out of their day for your meeting. Be respectful of their time. Avoid scheduling an interview and then canceling at the last minute or showing up late for your meeting.

The interviewer may not be so forgiving of your mishaps. If you cancel, they may not be willing to grant you a second chance. If you show up late, this will send the wrong signals and the interviewer may assume that you are irresponsible.

Being Overzealous

Finding a job in today’s economy can be a challenge, but you certainly do not want to seem desperate. Furthermore, there is a fine line between showing interest in a position and being downright badgering. There is no reason to call a recruiter or interviewer every single day for an update on your chances of being hired. There is also no reason to track down the recruiter on social media sites like Twitter or Facebook and asking them questions about the job opportunity. Be patient, courteous and respectful.

Providing a Reference Without Permission

Every resume needs a list of references that can vouch for the credentials and skills you list. However, adding a reference without first asking their permission to do so is unethical. When the reference you list receives an unexpected phone call from a recruiter or interviewer, they may not be so quick to sing your praises.

Instead, they may view your actions as unprofessional and disrespectful. Do not assume that they will be willing to vouch for your credentials. Always ask for permission before including any reference on your resume.
