Top 5 Helmet-cam war videos

February 13, 2011

For whatever reason, the Western World's armies have fallen into the practice of filming the brutality of war via helmet-mounted cameras. And the people's obsession for a glimpse of it has become obvious. What's compiled here are five of the videos from around the internet with over one million hits, what a hipster might call 'entry level.' Obviously, these videos are not for the faint of heart, as they do depict actual war.

The first video, courtesy of The Corps of Her Majesty's Royal Marines (The UK), is of an Allied soldier taking a hit in combat. It seems that the morbid curiosity of civilians has given this video over one million hits as of press time. The video's description says it all: 'In Afghanistan, Royal Marines are in a fierce battle against taliban. This Royal is wearing a helmet camera. He then later on gets shot in the [rear]...ouch!' The brackets are not from the original.

Second on the list, courtesy of thebrigade.com and the US Marine Corps, is of an ambush on a bridge, by the enemy. As you can see, the initial reaction to being attacked is panic. The squad leader (with the helmet cam) fires over the heads of two men while a third blatantly strafes across his line of fire. Fortunately, no friendly-fire is recorded.

Third on the list, this time courtesy of the US Army, depicts another ambush. One soldier takes a grazing hit, and combat ends with the soldiers disengaging.

Fourth, as the video's description writes: 'U.S. Army Paratroopers from 3rd Platoon, Battle Company, 2nd Battalion (Airborne), 503rd Infantry Regiment, "The Rock", 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, come under fire while transporting an Afghan casualty at OP Dallas in Korengal valley, Afghanistan.' The description fails to mention the heroism of the man wearing the camera.

Fifth, and certainly not least on our list, is a montage of explosions, doors being kicked-in, weapons discharging, and people yelling.

Hopefully you enjoyed these films. As of press time, they cost about $1,151,692,000,000 to make.
