Top 5: Ethnic buffets where you can stuff yourself silly

Tomorrow marks the start of the holiday pigging-out fest. We all know we’ll be stuffing ourselves silly from now until New Year’s resolution time, so we might as well enjoy it. Below are the top five local ethnic buffets where you can enjoy a diverse range of foods to satisfy the hunger pains in an ever-expanding stomach.

5. Young Bin Kwan Korean Buffet
One of the few Korean buffets in the Philadelphia area, Young Bin Kwan in Jenkintown offers a mix of Korean BBQ and Japanese items for a set price. Korean BBQ let’s the patrons grill their own meat at their table and is an experience in and of itself. (Think Melting-Pot style, but less greasy, less expensive and tastier.)

4. King’s Court Buffet
Who doesn’t enjoy a hearty Chinese buffet every now and then? This often overlooked treasure located on Ogontz Avenue in Wyncote offers a tasty helping of Chinese and American dishes. There’s also a Mongolian BBQ area where you can get some fresh stir-fry. The only oddity about this place is that there are signs warning guests not to waste too much food or you will be charged. I’ve never had this happen, but then we have hidden excessive leftovers under and in napkins…

3. Minado’s
Unlimited sushi and seafood? Say no more. While I’m not a sushi eater, I’ve heard many say Minado’s rolls are pretty tasty. Plus, they have over 30 types to choose from. The buffet also includes cold items like noodle salads and hot entrees including red snapper, mussels, udon noodles and prime rib. You can finish your meal off with an assortment of American and Japanese desserts including red bean cheesecake and green tea ice cream.

2. Amans Indian Cuisine
Amans has one of the best buffets I’ve been too. With an array of appetizers, entrees and desserts you’re sure to leave satisfied. Plus, any Indian buffet with an unlimited offering of gulab jamun (a delicious, sugary dessert) gets five stars from me.

On my last visit, I even heard a young woman exclaim to her friend, “Wow. I’m so glad you brought me here, I didn’t think I liked Indian food, but it’s delicious.” This is a sentiment shared by many, because people who try Indian for the first time usually aren’t sure what to order. They may need the help of a veteran, but if this isn’t possible it’s best to try a buffet like Aman’s to get an idea of what you like and what you don’t. Aman’s is located at 2700 Dekalb Pike in Norristown.

1. Picanha Brazilian Grill
It’s usually difficult to find Brazilian food, let alone a Brazilian buffet. Philly has a bunch and Picanha is one of the best. For only $21.99 you can eat your fill of steak (skirt, sirloin and flank), fish, chicken, sausage, lamb, pork and more. This place is a must for all you carnivores! Of course they also serve an assortment of salads and hot side dishes. Desserts include flan, milkshakes and braze (cream of condensed milk with Brazilian chocolate), but are so delicious they must be ordered and paid for separately.
