A lot of us are busy these days. We'd love to take a dance class, but we don't have time, or more likely nowadays, funds are restricted. Here is Eve's list of Top 5 Bellydance DVD's for the at home bellydancer:
5.) Luscious Layers by Ansuya - This is a wonderful video for working on slow moves and layers. You definitely get your money's worth as the video is about 2 hours long. Ansuya breaks down each move from many different angles and provides multiple repetitions so you can "get" the move before you move on to the next one. This reporter recommends this DVD for intermediate to advanced dancers.
4.) Drum Solo, Technique and Choreography by Jillina - One of this reporters favorite bellydancers, Jillina offers instruction in a traditional Egyptian drum solo bellydancing. Her choreography is fun and flirtatious, and her teaching is enjoyable and easy to understand. Drum solo being the core of a traditional bellydance "set," this video can be the core of any good bellydancer's collection. This reporter recommends this DVD for upper level intermediate to advanced dancers.
3.) Tribal Fusion Bellydance with Rachel Brice, Yoga, Isolations, and Drills - Though she is tribal dancer, Rachel's drills are magnificent, they work your physical core AND your core dance skills with repetition of moves basic to all styles of bellydance. A great basic DVD highly recommended by this reporter for beginners through advanced, to keep those skills tight.
2.) Fat Chance Belly Dance, Woman Power Workout - This video was made by Fat Chance Belly Dance, a tribal bellydance organization that is affiliated with the American Tribal Style (ATS) and Carolena Nericcio, credited with developing this style. This video has several different strengthening and toning sections geared towards the bellydancer, as well as a lengthy drill section in ATS style. Though this reporter is not a tribal dancer, this DVD is excellent for any bellydancer as you get a good work out, you sweat, and you work muscles needed to increase balance, strength, and make you a better dancer. This DVD is also great for beginners on up, or even a dancer from another genre that wants to mix it up a little.
1.) Delilah's Bellydance Workshop, Parts I, II, & III - These videos should be the foundation for every bellydancer's collection. Delilah goes through techniques slowly, thoroughly, and with a consciousness towards maintaining the integrity, origins, and authenticity of the dance. These DVDs cover everything from slow moves, fast moves, arms, floor work, veil work, zill work, and etc. If you are a beginner or intermediate and cannot get any other DVDs, get these. They'll set your belly dance foundation in good order!
