We all enjoy taking our dogs to the park, but not all parks are pooch friendly. So here is a helpful list of all the dog friendly parks in the Louisville/Metro area:
1. Central Park: Located on fourth street isn't really a dog park, but it is very pup friendly. Just make sure you clean up after your dog because a lot of children play in the park and sometimes they put on shows there. It has a great path to walk your dog on and plenty of squirrels for them to chase. It's also near the Mag bar that has a fenced in back area you can take your dog to.
2. Sawyer Dog park: Located in the eastern Louisville Metro in the 369 acre Tom Sawyer Park. Is the first off-leash dog park in our community. It ha plenty of trees to keep in shaded in those hot summer months and with the extended parking lot there is now plenty of parking.
3.Cherokee Park: Located Past Cave Hill cemetery in the back of the highlands.Great park to walk your dog. The also have other activities including horseback riding.
4. Louisville Waterfront Park: Located on the waterfront, has dog runs. This is a great area just to come and relax with your pooch and take a nice stroll. It has water areas your pooch can play in during the summer.
5.The Vettiner Dog Park: Located on the charlie vettiner road. Although this is a leash on dog park, it is fenced in and provides clean up bags and has lighting for the night for those of us who have to give our pups a late walk and of course it gets dark earlier in the winter.
Hopefully, this helps you plan a trip with your pup. Remember if you're going to let your dog off leash he's good around other people and dogs, so no one is injured and you won't be in trouble. Lawsuites are nasty. and for your own dogs safety too.
And although we all hate doing it, Clean up after your pet so these great parks can stay open and remain pet friendly.
Have fun and enjoy your trips with your dogs.
