For those of you who embrace the connection between nutrition and longevity; recent studies have cited certain "superfoods" that can stimulate longevity.
TOP 4 SUPERFOODS FOR BREAST HEALTH:
Soy: The consumption of soy isoflavones produce a statistically significant reduced risk of recurrence among breast cancer survivors. According to Dr. Barry Boyd, creator of integrative medicine program at Greenwich Hospital-Yale Health Systems, "Women should no longer be afraid to consume soy. Science has not only proved an absence of risk; there's also a possible benefit."
Kale & Sweet Potatoes: Foods rich in carotenoids have been linked to a reduced risk of breast cancer. Carotenoids are found in carrots, sweet potatoes, squash and dark leafy greens.
Salmon & Cod: A 2011 study in the Journal of Nutrition showed that eating fish high in Omega-3 fatty acids (salmon, cod, sardines) had an approximate 25% reduced risk of recurrence.
Beans & Whole Grains: "A high fiber diet is associated with lower overall mortality in breast cancer patients," says Dr. Keith Block, director of the Block Center for Integrative Cancer Treatment. Fiber helps women maintain a healthy weight. "The fatter you are the more estrogen circulates in your body increasing the risk of breast disease," says Block.
All in all, cancer survival is not just about eating one kind of fruit or vegetable. It's about making the right lifestyle choices; including exercise.
