Meryl Davis/Charlie White USA
2012 World Team Trophy free dance

It’s just a night at the ball – a night of supremely difficult but effortlessly executed dancing on four eighth-inch blades.

Meryl Davis/Charlie White’s free dance at the World Team Trophy was one of the big highlights in ice dance last season. It’s really everything that you ask for in a great free dance – musical, crowd pleasing, flowing, seamless. There wasn’t much wrong with this free dance at all. It makes you want to go out on the ice and do what they are doing, even though you know that’s pretty impossible.

After seesawing with rivals Tessa Virtue/Scott Moir – Davis/White took gold at Grand Prix Final, only to have Virtue/Moir come back to win both Four Continents and Worlds – Davis/White ended their season on this note, beating Virtue/Moir in both phases of the competition at the World Team Trophy.

It may not have been Worlds, but their victory was still significant and possibly momentum-changing. They have been undefeated ever since, including a victory over Virtue/Moir at the Grand Prix Final last month.
