For those who aren’t aware of what the bucket list means, it is a list of the things you want to do before you die, i.e. hence the phrase “kick the bucket”. I do have a “kick the bucket” story before I get on with the top 30 restaurants in the United States as determined by Opinionated about Dining poll. When my neighbor’s daughter was 4 years old she admired a ring that I wore. I told her if she was really good that when I kicked the bucket she can have the ring. She asked, like any precocious child might, “where’s the bucket?”

Opinionated about Dining polled 1,900 respondents on over 29,000 rankingsin September, 2009 and January, 2010 The French Laundry ranked number one with a score of 100. Here is a list of their 2010 poll  top 30 and additional top list by regions. Have you eaten at any of these restaurants and do you agree? Opinionated about Dining 2010 poll http://www.opinionatedaboutdining.com/2010results.html . The full survey that looks at 1,000 restaurants throughout the United States will be released in March.

Sorry, but this is just another "Best of" list that could be in Bon Appetit, Vogue, or any simmilar publication. The name is just a gimmick. What i had hoped for was restaurants that make you love life, where the chef creates joy and the experience is transformative. For instance, Charleston is generally considered to be the best restaurant, But it is really just another posh evening out. with food that is well prepared. On the other hand, I feel sorry for a food enjoyer who has not had the expeience of Grace Garden, which may turn a disgust at innards to the joy of eating Chef Li's tripe, served by his wife with vegetables she has grown in her own garden. Or creating your own milkshake at the Waverly Market by chosing the ingrediends then riding a stationary bike that powers the blender.
Your bucket list is bound to be different, but I bet it is more unusual than another mention of a $300 meal at Per Se or The French Laundry. Let's hear of these unique places that give us joy!
