In part one of this article (jump here to read it), I discussed the delicious food I enjoyed at the media sneak preview of the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, which runs from September 19 to November 10. But let's not forget the word “wine” and the fact that it's actually much broader than just vino when it comes to alcoholic libations.I had the pleasure of trying several wines and beers at the preview. They all pleased my palate, but a few stood out as favorites. Here are my top three:
iCing Grapefruit Sparkling Rice Brew: I love beers with a fruity twist, so it's only natural that I really fell for iCing Grapefruit Sparking Rice Brew. It's light and refreshing and perfect for a hot day of trekking around World Showcase. It's light and flavorful and an all around versatile drink.
Donaussonne Blaufrankisch Hungarian Wine: This beverage is actually from Poland, and it's a wonderful, fruity, mellow red wine that's paried with the Sauerkraut Pierogi but that stands just fine on its own. It has a hint of sweetness, but it's not at all overwhelming. My taste tends to run toward sweeter wines, and this one filled the bill without crossing over anywhere near dessert territory.
Gasolina Sangriiia from Puerto Rico: You can't go wrong with a drink that blends Caribbean rum with acai and 100 percent natural fruit juices. You'll find it paired up with a Caribbean conch salad at the Puerto Rico kiosk, and the duo is a light and lovely treat.
There are plenty of other wines, beers, and special libations to keep you in good spirits as you dine around the world. Those are my favorites, but I urge you to go out and find your own. The great thing about the festival is that you don't need to know a thing about pairing wine and beer with complementary food items because it's all done for you. Just check out the menu for the proper suggestions, buy the pairs, and drink up!
