Many of us Gen Xers have dedicated ourselves to either getting back in shape, or staying in shape. We made goals to lose weight, eat better and exercise, which are all easier said than done. However, just because it isn’t easy, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be doing it. Like many of you, I’m adding more salads to my meals, reducing the amount of sweets I eat, and going to the gym often. The one thing that gets me through my workout routine, is music!
I’ve noticed that the music that seems to get me moving a little easier and faster at the gym, is often the music of our teen years; 80s tunes. I made a play list of 15 of my favorite 80s songs to exercise to and I thought I’d share it with my readers in hopes that maybe some of these songs make your it to your iPod and help keep you moving towards your goal of getting healthy. The total time of this play list is just under one hour.
“All Fired Up” by Pat Benatar (Length 4:32) It’s a great song to kick start your workout routine!
“We Got the Beat” by The Go-Go’s (Length 2:30)
“The Warrior” by Scandal (Length 3:54) That’s right, you are a warrior, so keep moving, keep lifting and meet your goal!
“Rebel Yell” by Billy Idol (Length 4:59)
“Should I Stay or Should I Go” by The Clash (Length 3:08) You may be at the gym thinking, “Should I stay or should I go now?” Well turn this song up and stay!
“Whip It” by Devo (Length 2:45)
“Centerfield” by John Fogerty (Length 3:52) Even if you have never played baseball or softball in your life, the beat of this fun song will get your legs moving!
“Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor (Length 4:11)
“Footloose” by Kenny Loggins (Length 4:06) If you can’t get moving to this song, you’re dead.
“Cum on Feel the Noize” by Quiet Riot (Length 4:40)
“Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves (Length 3:49) A feel good song to put you in the right mood for exercising.
“We’re Not Gonna Take It” by Twisted Sister (Length 3:40)
“Bad Reputation” by Joan Jett (Length 2:42) Nothing gets me as pumped up as this rocking tune by Ms Rock and Roll herself!
“I’m Still Standing” by Elton John (Length 3:05)
“In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins (Length 4:54) This is the perfect cool off song after a solid workout session.
If you want to add a few more beats to your play list, I recommend “Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns N’ Roses, “Don’t Stop Believin” by Journey and “Working for the Weekend” by Loverboy.
