Top 10 worst photo shoots from 'America's Next Top Model'

America's Next Top Model has televised thirteen Cycles so far, with Cycle 14 due to premierie on March 10th. There have been over 100 different photo shoots with various themes. Some of them are really creative and make for fun photos. Others, not so much. I've already spotlighted what I think are the Top 20 Best photo shoots from America's Next Top Model Here, I will list my picks for the Top 10 worst photo shoots from all 13 Cycles.

I've listed my picks from 10-1. If you agree or disagree, or want to add a photo shoot I didn't mention that you think is even worse, use the comments section above to do so.

10) Exotic Birds

Cycle 12
Celia Ammerman - America's Next Top Model - Cycle 12 (c) The CW

In episode 12 of Cycle 12, the girls had to travel to the Brazilian jungle so they could dress up as exotic birds. Birds? Yep, birds. The photos were dismal looking, even Allison's photo, which was ranked the top was nothing to write home about.

9) Romance Novels

Cycle 7
Brooke Miller - America's Next Top Model - Cycle 7 - The CW

While the topic of romance novels isn't so horrible, using Fabio as the male lead is what makes this not work. Fabio is a great looking guy, but he's more than twice the age of all of these girls, and I think they could have done better with a younger model to pose with. I think the girls could have related to a male model more their age.

8) Plants & Flowers

Cycle 9
Victoria Marshman - America's Next Top Model - Cycle 9 - The CW

In episode 4 of Cycle 9, the girls were asked to portray different types of plants. Some had beautiful flowers like Baby's Breath (Chantal) and Bird of Paradise (Ebony), but others had more difficult plants like weeds (Heather) and cactus (Victoria). While I love flowers, I just think the shoot was pretty strange overall.

7) Four Sides of their Personalities

Cycle 8
Sarah VonderHaar - America's Next Top Model - Cycle 8 - The CW

This was a weird photo shoot that was reminiscent of the photos you get from those photo machines in arcades. Tyra had the girls choose 4 words that described the different sides of their personalities, and then they had to pick nicknames that they felt suited them. On top of all that, each of the girls had to style their own clothing, hair and makeup. Weird, Tyra.

6) Bi-racial

Cycle 13
Erin Wagner - America's Next Top Model - Cycle 13 - (c) The CW

I guess Tyra is running out of ideas, and using old ideas a second time. Back in Cycle 4, Tyra had the girls portray different races from their own. So, this was just a regurgitated idea in Cycle 13, with a slight twist that it was bi-racial. The theme got a lot of flack from various critics, but Tyra defended the idea.

5) Crowded Phonebooth

Cycle 5
Jayla Rubinelli - America's Next Top Model - Cycle 5 - (c) UPN

This was just silly, sticking all the girls in a single phonebooth, surrounded by Paparazzi, wearing only underwear, rubber boots and holding up newspapers to cover themselves. Huh?

4) Garden of Eden

Cycle 3
Xiomara Frans - America's Next Top Model - Cycle 2 - (c) UPN

This photo shoot was the first one from Cycle 2, and I can definitely see why one of the girls decided not to do it. The girls were nude, with only paint covering parts of their bodies, and they had to pose with nude male models. What a way to do your first photo shoot. I can see the beauty in the paint on their bodies, but having the males ogling over them just makes the concept uncomfortable to me.

3) Homeless

Cycle 10
Kimberly Rydzewski - America's Next Top Model - Cycle 10 - (c) The CW

If you're looking for a Cycle with the most number of awful ideas for photo shoots, you need look no further than Cycle 10.

The homeless shoot was only one of the bad ideas that made it to a photo shoot. The idea here was that the models had to portray homeless people surrounded by high fashion models. Ugh.

This was where we got our first look at Isis, who was one of the high fashion models in the background. She went on to become part of the cast of Cycle 11, and was the first transgendered contestant on the show.

2) Meat

Cycle 10
Claire Unabia - America's Next Top Model - Cycle 10 - (c) The CW

As I mentioned in photo #3, Cycle 10 was filled with quite a few stinkers when it came to photo shoot ideas. Whose idea was it anyway, to make models wear meat as clothes? Yuk! I love meat, but not on my body!

Other ideas from Cycle 10 that didn't make the list, but were not up to par, were the Paint shoot, where the models did beauty shots with paint dripping down their faces, and the Fuerzabruta shoot, where the models had to lay in water on a mylar sheet and pose.

1) Crime Scene Victims

Cycle 8
Whitney Cunningham - America's Next Top Model - Cycle 8 - (c) The CW

This shoot was just gross. Who wants to see models that are electrocuted, poisoned, decapitated, drowned, etc.?

I debated whether to list this as No. 1 or No. 2, and in the end, I felt that portraying horribly slain people was a lot worse than just wearing meat for underpants.

Your opinion is valid, but your opinion in the fashion industry is wasted air. The photoshoots were challenges, tests to see if the girls could still be pretty, even in the ugliest of circumstances.

    Lillie B. You're Right!

I laugh at this from a photographer's perspective. I think this article is funny and so off key. Obviously someone with no eye for creativity versus beauty.

You're right on the phonebooth, personality, and romance novel concepts but all the others were either hugely creative or interesting. Some may have grisly concepts or unfortunate implications but I feel they were pulled off well and had fruitful results

Lillie B. is right. All these photoshoots are art. Fashion is art.

besides #7, i completely disagree with you. all of these were creative and very well done. i mean look at the homeless photoshoot, Isis stood out in the BACKGROUND, which just gave way to her excellent abilities. If that was a "horrible" photo idea like you said, then she wouldn't of been able to do so.

Most of these shoots are really creative. Love the meat one. I dont understand how you cn't see this
