It is not a hidden secret that social networking has taken our country by storm. The impacts of Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Yelp, and the others have impacted many lives. Families have become closer via social media; being kept up to date by events, photos, videos and status updates. Firsts loves have bloomed, small businesses have expanded their networks and campaigns have used social media to reach out to the everyday voter.
Last year, Facebook and Youtube were used in order to facilitate Presidential Debates. Voters were able to submit video questions via Youtube or ask questions and partake in polls through Facebook. Recently Representative Matt Hudson, Florida State House District 101, participated in Tweet Townhall. With the use of a live stream, concerned citizens were able to pose questions to Representative Hudson and other panelist on Healthcare by “tweeting” from their homes.
Social Media is helping facilitate the rapid transfer of information. Candidates can give minute by minute campaign updates as they happen. Press Releases have been condensed to 140 characters via Twitter. Candidates and Politicians alike have become “real people”, sharing their love of sports and even random moments in their personal lives.
